Cumhuriyet’ten önceki Türkiye’nin bu dönemi, sadece sanat tarihine değil, yeni bir devlet ve millet inşa ederken tarihe, edebiyata, topluma muhakkak bir kaynaklık etmiştir. Bu kaynaklık ister olumlu ister olumsuz olsun sanat tarihimizin şekillenmesinde, belgelenmesinde, bir Türk sanat tarihi veya felsefesi kavramını temellendirmiştir. Sanat tarihi kavramı bize Avrupa üzerinden gelmiştir. Sanat ve sanat tarihi kavramlarına yüklenen anlam, terminoloji, sanat felsefesinin gelişmesi açısından oldukça faydalı olmuştur. Sanat ve sanat tarihi felsefesi yazılarının çoğunda “sanat sanat içindir” görüşü hâkim olsa da özellikle II. Meşrutiyetten sonra bilhassa mimari ile ilgili yazılarda Türk sanatı fikri öne çıkmıştır.

Turkey are in this period, while building a new state and nation, not only the history of art, but also history, literature, society certainly has a source. Whether these sources prepare  the  ground  for  positive  or  negative,  to  the  formation  of  the  ours  art  history, documenting,  the  concept  of  a  Turkish  art  history  or  philosophy.  The  concept  of  art history came to us from Europe. Meaning attributed to the concept of art and art history, terminology,  has  been  very  useful  for  the  development  of  the  philosophy  of  art.  Most of the philosophy of art and art history writings of “art for art”, though the dominant opinion, especially writings on architecture, especially the idea of  the Turkish art came to the fore, during in the Constitutional Monarchy II.
